The company, based in Busto Arsizio, has been producing medium and low voltage dry-type transformers for strategic sectors since 2017

Founded in Busto Arsizio, Tmc transformers is now an international benchmark in the design and production of medium and low voltage dry-type transformers. Its products find application in highly strategic sectors such as data centers, military defense, power generation from renewable sources (solar, wind, hydrogen), railway traction, marine and heavy industry. A technological excellence, then, that has been able to keep its Italian roots firmly in place, while also bringing its know-how overseas. “We chose the province of Varese to root our industrial project,” explains the Group sales&marketing director of Tmc transformers, "because it represents a territory with strong manufacturing skills, where it was possible to integrate 30 years of experience on the part of our team with a new, ambitious and innovation-oriented vision. Since 2017, when the company was acquired by the new ownership, we have managed to create a dynamic and constantly expanding industrial ecosystem."

Growth

The company's new course, which began eight years ago with the change of ownership, has actually retained most of the historical staff while supplementing them with new, highly specialized figures. The result? Staggering growth: Tmc has recorded an average annual increase in turnover of 45 percent, reaching today about 500 employees worldwide, of which about 50 are in the United States. In Italy there are three production sites, the headquarter in Busto Arsizio, the headquarters in Marnate and the third in Fabro, Umbria, flanked by sales offices in Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Singapore, as well as a plant in Israel, dedicated exclusively to that market. A company, in short, that presents a deeply Italian heart but with a global vocation. “Our strength lies in the combination of engineering tradition and pioneering spirit, which pushes us to seek new markets and new challenges.”

Foreign

International expansion is one of the main drivers of Tmc's strategy today. In 2023 the company inaugurated a production plant in Georgia, in the United States, strengthening its presence in a highly competitive and dynamic market. This success was also certified by the official visit of the Governor of the State of Georgia, who sanctioned a close relationship with the territory and announced the start of work on a second, even larger plant, planned for 2026. From this point of view, investing in the United States was not just a natural step, but a strategic choice: "The goal is to export our engineering know-how and Italian quality, taking our production model where there is demand for innovation and reliability. We are also about to open a new production site in Southeast Asia, a region with very high potential for the energy industry."

Technologies that are always safe and sustainable

Transformers are fundamental devices for the operation of any power grid. Their job is to change the voltage of electricity, adapting it to the needs of different devices and systems. In simple terms, they allow electricity to travel efficiently from one point to another and arrive in usable form in our homes, factories, data centers or trains. “Wherever there is a need to convert energy, a transformer comes into play,” explains the Group sales&marketing director of Tmc transformers, a Lombardy-based company with 30 years of experience in this field behind it. “Whether it's to power a ship, an industrial plant or a data center, our job is to ensure a stable, safe and high-performance electrical supply.”

Cutting edge

Unlike conventional, oil-cooled transformers, Tmc has specialized in dry-type transformers. This is an innovative technology and does not use fossil fuels for cooling, but a special insulating resin in which the conductors are immersed. This solution offers numerous advantages from both an environmental and safety standpoint. "Our technology is definitely more sustainable. Dry-type transformers do not use oil, they are almost totally recyclable, and our research center is working to increase this percentage to 100 percent. In addition, the resin is self-extinguishing and therefore much safer in case of malfunctions and short circuits: in case of a fire, it does not feed the flames, but on the contrary limits them and extinguishes itself in a few seconds." All these elements make Tmc transformers ideal for critical and sensitive applications, where safety and continuity of service are imperative. In addition, the absence of oil minimizes environmental risks related to leaks or spills, while also simplifying maintenance.

Future

Tmc transformers' identity is based on innovation, continuous investment in development, and meticulous care for quality and reliability. These values have enabled the company to build a solid, globally recognized reputation. "Today, more than ever, we want to be key players in the transitions taking place, offering smart, safe and sustainable solutions. We look to the future, but with roots firmly in the Italian engineering tradition."
