Reliable dry transformers for port cranes
Cranes are vital for modern, high-throughput port operations. They are essential machines in ports for loading and unloading cargo between ships and the shore. To maintain peak performance, cranes require a continuous, stable, and resilient power supply - even under heavy-duty and variable load conditions.
Dry-Type transformers are the perfect fit for this kind of operation: their robust design allows them to withstand overload cycles and handle high harmonic distortion levels, all with low energy losses.
Project highlights and technical specifications
In the port development project in Sweden, TMC supplied 26 dry-type port crane transformers with various ratings according to the specific needs of each unit. The installation resulted in an increased capacity, enhanced safety for operators, and overall efficiency in port operations.

- 10x Power: 1800 kVA – 22kV – 0.51kV.
- 2x Power: 1700 kVA – 15kV – 0.51kV.
- 8x Power: 300 kVA – 22kV – 0.44kV.
- 4x Power: 250 kVA – 15kV – 0.44kV.
- IP23 enclosure suitable for semi-outdoor or sheltered locations, like under a crane platform, where full weatherproofing isn't needed but some protection from the environment is still required.
- Cooling system: Air Natural (AN).

Transformers for cranes are the result of a precise engineering study, resulting in a highly reliable machine that is maintenance-free, eliminating the cost related to machine stopping due to ordinary preservation. To withstand the environmental conditions, the transformers have been developed considering a protective enclosure against external agents to guarantee the longevity and the performance of the transmission.
